Liz Fussell, EdD, CRC, Director of Baton Rouge Services, and Carmen McLain, OTR/L, CLVT, COMS, represented Lighthouse Louisiana at the July 11 ribbon cutting for MOVEBR’s Florida Street ADA Compliance Project. The Florida Street project is the first of six MOVEBR projects downtown to improve accessibility for the disabled.

“The progress we are seeing with the MOVEBR Project shows the commitment of our city’s leaders to make Baton Rouge a truly inclusive community for people with all abilities,” said Dee Budgewater, President and CEO of Lighthouse Louisiana. “The repairs, as well as the installation of accessible pedestrian signals, will allow people with vision loss and other physical challenges to access all the resources that downtown Baton Rouge offers.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony involved a demonstration by McLain on how pedestrians who are blind or have low vision can safely navigate street crossing with the benefit of the newly installed accessible pedestrian signals (APS) and redesign of curb cuts.
