Peer Support Groups
Because many individuals have difficulty coping with the challenges of vision loss, The Lighthouse offers a support group once a month as a resource for help and encouragement. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month at The Lighthouse from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm and is facilitated by a licensed Social Worker who plans each discussion around the needs and interests of the group participants. The Slidell Support Group meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 10:30 am – 11:45 am and is peer led.
Sample discussion topics include (but are not limited to):
- Fears after sight loss
- Changes in friend & family relationships after sight loss
- Effects of vision loss on social life
- Changes in personality and appearance after sight loss
- Dating with a vision impairment
The support group is ongoing. Clients are welcome to attend as often as they choose. Transportation is available, but limited.
