Next Step Program

The Next Step Program is an advanced Daily Living Skills Class that teaches blind and low vision adults the adaptive techniques necessary to engage in meaningful activities inside and outside of the home. This program helps students take the "Next Step" toward achieving their independence by developing their Orientation & Mobility skills, community integration skills, and recreational interests.
Training in the classroom and in the community focuses on the development of the adaptive skills necessary to enjoy:
- Shopping
- Descriptive Movies
- Bowling
- Restaurant Dining
- Gardening
- Pottery
- Advanced Cooking
- Woodworking
- Bonsai
- Exercise
And more...

Clients accepted into the Next Step Program must demonstrate the ability to participate in a group setting, manage money independently, and tolerate a moderate amount of walking. The Daily Living Skills Program is recommended as a precursor to taking this course. Classes are on-going at the New Orleans campus, offering two levels of training to accommodate varying degrees of mobility within the older-blind population.
